Windows 7 Professional 64-bit ISO download and how to activate (2026)

Microsoft has taken down its Windows 7 download page, so the ISO is no longer available there, even with a valid key. When you buy Windows 7 Professional from us, your order email includes your product key and a direct download link to an untouched Microsoft ISO. Here is how to download it, check it, make a bootable USB and activate.

Windows 7 reached end of support on January 14, 2020. It no longer receives security updates and modern browsers and apps have stopped supporting it. It is fine for an offline machine, old industrial or lab software, or a virtual machine, but please don’t use it as a daily internet PC. For a current system, Windows 10 Pro or Windows 11 Pro is the right choice.

Download the Windows 7 ISO from your order email

Your key and the download link arrive together in one email right after payment. Have the email open before you start.

  1. Open the order email from KRBKeys and copy your 25-character product key somewhere safe.
  2. Click the Windows 7 download link in the email. It opens the file Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit.iso on Google Drive.
  3. Click the download button. Because the file is large, Google Drive says it can’t scan it for viruses; click Download anyway. The ISO is a few GB, so give it a few minutes.
Can’t find the email? Check your spam or promotions folder. If it isn’t there, contact support with your order number and we’ll resend the key and the link.

Check the ISO is untouched (optional)

You can confirm the file is exactly the original Microsoft image before you install it. Open Command Prompt and run (change the path if you saved it elsewhere):

certutil -hashfile "%USERPROFILE%\Downloads\Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit.iso" SHA1

The result should be 5ed2584110e03f498db4458ba9fafd5a7ef602ed. If it is different, the download didn’t finish properly; delete the file and download it again.

Windows 7 Professional 32-bit or 64-bit?

The link in your email is for 64-bit, which is right for almost every PC with 4 GB of RAM or more (64-bit is needed to use more than 3.5 GB of memory). Your Professional key activates either version. If you really need the Windows 7 Professional 32-bit download for a very old machine, contact support with your order number and we’ll send you the 32-bit ISO.

Not sure which one a PC is running now? Right-click Computer → Properties and look at System type. Choose 32-bit only for PCs with less than 4 GB of RAM or a processor that can’t run 64-bit software.

Make a bootable USB

  1. Download Rufus (free) and plug in an 8 GB or larger USB stick. Everything on it will be erased.
  2. In Rufus select the USB stick, click Select and choose the ISO. Leave the other options on their defaults and click Start.
  3. Boot the PC from the USB (usually F12, F2 or Esc at startup to pick the boot device) and follow the Windows 7 installer. Choose Custom (advanced) for a clean install.

Activate Windows 7

  1. You can enter the key during setup, or skip it and activate afterwards.
  2. After installation, right-click Computer → Properties, scroll down and click Change product key, or press Win + R and run slui 3.
  3. Enter the key and click Next. With an internet connection it activates in a few seconds. If online activation fails, run slui 4 for phone activation.

After installing

  • Install the chipset, graphics and network drivers from your PC maker’s site; Windows 7 media is old and won’t recognise newer hardware on its own.
  • Windows Update still works for the updates that exist, but nothing new has been released since 2020.

Questions

Can I still download Windows 7 Professional from Microsoft?

No. Microsoft removed the Windows 7 ISO downloads after support ended, even for people with a valid key. When you order from us, your email includes a direct link to an untouched Windows 7 Professional ISO, and you can confirm the file with the SHA-1 check above.

Is there a Windows 7 Professional 32-bit download?

Yes, on request. The link in your email is the 64-bit ISO; contact support with your order number and we’ll send the 32-bit one. The same Professional key activates both.

Can Windows 7 still be activated in 2026?

Yes. Enter the key during setup or run slui 3 afterwards, and online activation completes in a few seconds. If online activation fails, run slui 4 for phone activation.

Is Windows 7 still safe to use?

Microsoft ended support on January 14, 2020, so Windows 7 gets no new security updates. It is a good fit for offline PCs and for older software or hardware that needs it. For everyday browsing and email, Windows 10 Pro or Windows 11 Pro is the safer choice.

Will Windows 7 install on a new PC?

Often not. PCs from roughly 2017 onward may have no Windows 7 drivers for USB, storage or graphics, and some only boot UEFI without the legacy (CSM) mode Windows 7 needs. It works best on hardware from the Windows 7 and 8 years.
